Collected in July 2021. Found a bunch on their nuptial flights near Olympic National Park in Washington. On forest floor and near the beach. Queen is slightly over 2 cm. Any ideas?

Even just a genus would be super helpful. Thanks!!!!

That's a Camponotus for sure but I'm not familiar with the western species so I can't give you a conjecture there.

You’ll need better photos to get it down to species. Try some next to a window with bright sunlight.

I agree with ANTdrew. It is however, most likely C. modoc, even if we cannot be certain yet.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Camponotus pennsylvanicus?

These arent native to Washington, and nearly everyone has come to a conclusion that it is most likely C. modoc

I'm leaning toward C. herculeanus based on the workers pictured, but better lit pictures are needed for me to confidently say anything other than Camponotus subgenus.
