Have the Nevada flights already come and gone?

Hi,

I've always wanted to collect Pogonomyrmex queens, but they don't live in my part of the country.   I find myself in Las Vegas on business for the next two and a half weeks, and although I've seen several nests, I haven't seen any signs of alates sticking their heads out or anything.  There was a decent rain storm the day before yesterday and I thought for sure there would be a flight the next day, but when I checked two of the big P. rugosus nests near one of the places I'm going, I didn't see any signs of an impending flight.

I'm kind of worried I've missed them, are there any posters here from Nevada or the area that have seen flights already?  The locals I've spoken with said the storm the other day was the first rain they've gotten in weeks, so I'm a little mystified.  I haven't seen a single queen of any species out.  I've been watching the radar and I've seen some big storms that have stayed to the north, but unfortunately I don't have a car right now and have no way to get there.

Thanks for any response!

You probably aren't going to see alates unless you look at the right time. Also if they already flew, you might not see them either. Did you search everywhere for any founding chambers? That is really the only way to know they flew, and the only way to catch them after the fact.

Unfortunately I don't have a car, so I'm sort of limited to the places I'm getting shuttled to which have all been in sort of suburban areas.  I haven't noticed any founding chambers but I have been keeping my eyes peeled.  I was able to watch two large nests in a vacant lot for pretty much the entire day after an evening storm and nothing happened.

I'm not really sure what part of the month they usually fly in, all I see is July for P. rugosus

Last year I saw P. rugosus fly from the beginning of July until the end of August.
