Hey all!
I wanted to make a thread about lists of ants found in your area. As I'm new to ant keeping, I've found it fun to try and identify what kind of ants live on my 4 acre property.
Here is the list. Not all have ID's as I haven't find them yet.
Polyrhachis ornata - found one trail. can't find it any more. EDIT: Saw another worker so they are still around.
Polyrhachis Daemeli - Found one Queen.
Polyrhachis Ammon - Or might be P. brisbanensis. They are everywhere on my property. Like everywhere...
Polyrhachis Vermiculosa - few colony scatted around.
Rhytidoponera metallica - EVERYWHERE GOSH!
Strobe Ant - Opisthopsis sp. One kind is EVERYWHERE and another kind I've only found a few nests.
Camponotus Aeneopilosus - EVERYWHERE GOSH! They swam like mad when disturbed.
Camponotus Humilior over 5+ colonies on my property.
Camponotus Elegans - few colonies scattered around.
Ochetellus glaber - Seen a worker almost anywhere.
Black Crazy Ants - EVERYWHERE GOSH!
Brachyponera lutea - found one queen under a rock by her self. (is now in a test tube with larva.
Myrmecia Chrysogaster - Found one wandering Queen.
Iridomyrmex Purpureus - Bloody pests and travel over 100m for food. However they do help with killing termites.
Technomyrmex albipes - Black ones. heart shape gaster.
Camponotus sp. - Few different kinds. Haven't found ID yet.
Many different Pheidole sp. colony's everywhere.
Yellow 3mm queen ants. They make such small colony's as the workers are like 1-2mm long. I've found many times a single colony can live under one leaf. Don't know the ID.
Notoncus capitatus - spotted a few places
Lioponera sp.
Tetraponera tucurua and/or Tetraponera punctulata
Tetramorium bicarinatum
Found a few more unidentified small ants. One is 3-4mm long, black with a silver abdomen. looks like a sugar ant.
Another is 2.5mm long, all black with a red abdomen, body is over all chunky in looks.
I live around the Gympie area of Queensland Australia.
