If there is no elbow in the antene and no itty bitty waist then it's not an ant.

Starting this July I'm posting videos of my ants every week on youTube.

I like to make relaxing videos that capture the joy of watching ants.

Ohhhh sick! That means you caught a pair. That's what they do when they find they're mate.

If they are trailing behind each other then they are pairs. I remember last year they had a MASSIVE flight here. I saw 100s everywhere in my town. Really cool to see. I plan on catching a ton and making some sort of mega colony and sell some extras to for people to have.

its a cute little Termy.

I named all my termites Dermy. Each one is named Dermy. Because it rhymes with Termy, also other reasons.

Unlike ants, termites have both a queen and a king, so in order to start a colony you need a pair.

Incisitermes minor, most likely.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

How did you learn to ID so many species? Are you an Entomologist?
