Hello all Forum people! (why do i feel like an alien saying hi to humans?) I have not posted anything on my page since like July. Some of you may remember me, some may don't. Doesn't matter. I got a Solenopsis Invicta queen in August. I raised her from 1 queen and so far so good. She has now 20 workers. The sight of the first nanitics was just beautiful. They are now a colony that is growing rapidly. I give them honey and sugar water. I also give them pre-killed crickets from the pet store near me. I will give pictures and a short vid on them tomorrow. I think to give ants live prey is cruel and uncalled for. But, in fire ant cases. It pains me to say it but there instinct is to hunt and kill prey. I will give the decision to you guys. Please vote. The pole is above. If you guys say yes, I will take video of the cricket getting killed. I will remove 4 of its legs to give the fire ants a fighting chance. If you say no, I will take video of them feasting upon the dead carcass. Thank you. Feel free to ask questions or concerns or advise or comments. I will not judge anybody's constructive criticism.

Peace!

Don't forgot to vote!

Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

YouTube: https://m.youtube.co...uKsahGliSH7EqOQ (It's pretty dead. Might upload again soon, don't expect my voice to sound the same though.)

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

Okay so the all the votes are in.

15 of you have picked: No don't do it. The colony is to young to be taking on prey. Do it when they are older and have more workers.

The first day of January i will put a live cricket inside the colony's outworld and take video.

Sadly, I can't post a video of them drinking honey right now because i am about to sit down and have ThanksGiving dinner with my family. I will take video of them drinking honey tomorrow.

Thanks again for voting it really means a lot to me, and the colony too. LOL

Happy holidays!

Best, Bugging3out

11/26/21

The colony has grown a lot since last update. Maybe 10-20+ workers and more brood production. Colony is at 30 workers strong now. I will do a update every week from now. Every week, I will post a video of them as well. I thought I would have a hyperlapse of them eating a slice of left over turkey.  Here's a link to 2 vids. No pictures because i am horrible at taking pics, lol.

Video of them:

Here's the steps to getting videos on the forum like i do.

Step 1: Take video of the ants

Step 2: Get WhattsApp on GooglePlay or Apple store

Step 3: Ask friend on WhattsApp if you can send them weird videos of ants

Step 4: Send it

Step 5: Then get another device (preferably a Laptop) and get WhatsApp on that device.

Step 6: Open up on the 2nd device where you sended it to

Step 7: Download the file onto the Laptop

Step 8: Get Googledrive on the laptop

Step 9: Open new and click download File

Step 10: Download the vid

Step 11: Wait for the file to process on to GoogleDrive

Step 12: Rename the video on drive (just because)

Step 13: Open manage links and press anyone with the link can open and save the edit

Step 14: Copy link

Step 15: Open Formiculture.com

Step 16: Write whatever you want to write

Step 17: Paste the link to the drive of witch is the video

Step 18: Sit and watch people ask how you do it LOL

Make sure you follow these EXACT steps.

Peace!  :afro:

You can skip all the WhattsApp and multiple devices by getting Google Drive on the device that took the videos. Then just upload the video from the device to your Google Drive and continue the process above (steps 11-17).

I’ve posted Google Drive videos before, but they didn’t automatically embed like that. Maybe Dspdrew upgraded something on the site?

I am in Florida right now and away from this colony for 8 more days and will post update on them the day after. I am excited to see their progress when I get home with my family on airplane. Have a great rest of your week! In the meantime, please check out my Pheidole Megacephala Journal! Thanks!
