How low do you go? (more diapause questions)

At long last my colonies don't have massive brood piles and all but one are in the fridge which is at a modest 59 degrees F for now. 

I'm nervous about making them too cold, but they can still move (slowly) at 59F so I'm going to bring down the temp more. How low do you generally go?

 

I check on their water probably too often. But, I think it's going well so far.

Bring them down to the 40s if you can. Leave them in three months or so. Enjoy the rest!

What cooler did you end up going with this year?

This kinda fancy wine cooler a neighbor was throwing out. It cleaned up nice can can do precise temps from 40F to 69F. I'm really happy it can do the higher temps, many of the ones I was thinking of buying Could only do 40 to 55.

 

It even has wood racks. 

 

I now have vintage ants.
