I figured I would see exactly what all the high elevation ants do this time of the year, and like I suspected, it's not much different than ants that live up north where the weather is similar; they were all closed up and hibernating it seems. I didn't see anything until I was down below the 4000 foot level, where I found some Formica francoeuri. They were all out and about, as busy as can be. At time time, it was probably somewhere in the high 50's F. There was also some kind of termite mating flight happening at the time too, that of course they were all taking advantage of.

 

Here's about all I saw that day.

I did go home with four termite dealates, but I'm not sure what kind they are. We'll see if they end up mating or not.
