I recently moved my C. Novaeboracensis queen into a THA mini hearth, I have it in the dark right now, would it be ok to move it onto my desk? At the moment she has 2 larvae.
2x Camponotus novaeboracensis
1 Camponotus pensylvanicus
1 Teramorium immigrans
1 Lasius neoniger
Still getting over the loss of my Dolichoderus taschenbergii queen.

I would cover the glass with something to block light like a card and only remove it when checking up on her. If you do that she should be fine on your desk.

My desk is where I keep my favorite colonies, I get to enjoy them so much more often that way. Both are currently So Cal Camponotus species, not particularly sensitive to light and vibration. They don't appreciate it when I close a drawer a little too hard. Working remotely so often at my desk at home these days, I see them doing so many interesting things and I've watched countless new C. quercicola workers emerge. That being said I didn't move either colony to my desk until they had 30+ workers.

honestly I don’t think this queen cares about light very much. When a test tube she was in began flooding I tried letting her move on her own using a VERY bright light and left her there for days until eventually I just manually moved her eggs. Maybe I will try in the light and see how comfortable she is.My desk is where I keep my favorite colonies, I get to enjoy them so much more often that way. I would’ve waited for nanitics before moving her in, but its too late now.

her old tube flooded, I wanted to keep her in the test tube but I don’t have any extra tubes.I would’ve waited for nanitics before moving her in, but its too late now.
