Tbh I don’t think it’s a really big deal. Most queens would have died in the wild anyways. He is also just trying still cause he could have a different outcome and end up with a colony with more than one queen which would be awesome. Just don’t take it the wrong way for what I’m saying.

If this is true, not gonna lie, it would've been smarter to make more smaller groups instead of one larger groups, like the saying "Don't put all of your eggs in one basket".  This way you can see more than one outcome on multiple colonies, and assuming atleast one queen lives, you get five neoniger colonies instead of one OP colony.  Plus you can make money off of the ones you don't want to/cannot keep.  With that being said, it's always good to remember that the wild and captivity don't really relate.  You can say "they would've died in the wild anyways," but I could also respond with "they probably would've survived in captivity in monogynous colonies anyways".  Take that how you will, that's just my dumb-[censored] opinion.

Lasius neos don't sell for much in WA

Money is money, only a little is better than nothing.   You can always sell some to new ant keepers since their easy to keep.  You could also sell as host colonies.  Probably around 20 dollars easy for a queen with a couple workers.

Just one other thought:

 

If you separate out a few of them you will have a lasius colony ready in the future if you find a parasitic queen, and you can still collect brood and boost the best queen with them apart.  You could even do something like 5 queens together and 5 on their own. 

 

I always feel like I could use an extra medium small lasius colony for various things. 

 

Anyway hope it works, but do read up on the experiences of others and please don't just post a few times then disappear. If it's an experiment document the whole thing for the sake of the poor queens.

first they didn't care if the queens die and now they act kinda sad about it and the queen probably died from infertility.

Saying "unfortunately" doesn't necessarily indicate sadness.

Is it even possible for them to have like 100 nanitics at the end? If you suppose one queen gives about 10-15 nanitics while founding monogynously
