I made a quiz to see if I could tell these ants apart. Give it a try!

Starting this July I'm posting videos of my ants every week on youTube.

I like to make relaxing videos that capture the joy of watching ants.

If that sounds like your kind of thing... follow me >here<

3/9

Honestly, this quiz made me think I should start better developing my ant identification skills.

Edit: I don't know why I still took this quiz even though I don't live where Lasius are found.

Well the first question is wrong....

That parasitic queen is an aphidicola queen, not a claustral species. can't trust antwiki images all the time.

And when I press next the quiz doesnt go any further and gets stuck loading.

The other questions that I was able to see were indeed quite challenging though.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

So this page is wrong?

I've removed the question... but that's annoying.

I'm not sure what's wrong with it. It just gets stuck loading and doesn't go to the next page.

3/8. For me you couldn't tell more than general body shape and color on the pictures. Its like they were compressed, can't see any detail.

5/8. Location is pretty necessary for a lot of these, and for identification of ants in general.

That's what I got. I don't know how to tell them apart other than flavus and nearcticus having bright yellow workers.

I could easily tell which ones were emarginatus, and which were Cautolasius, but distinguishing between niger, americanus, and neoniger is quite difficult. Then again, I was never able to see the results of the quiz, due to it not loading beyond the first page...
