I was wanting some advice on getting a Myrmica ruba queen from Halifax as they have invaded the city. I want to get one and bring it to Yarmouth about 3 hours down the coast.

We currently do not have them this far down, would it be ok in "YOUR" opinion to move them here with extreme caution.

Also where they are so close do you think there is any chance they will move down the coast during nuptial flights?

Current queens/colonies

Camponotus novaeboracensis x2

Camponotus pennsylvanicus x2

Camponotus herculeanus x1

Formica sp. x1

Lasius americanus x1  (Lasius alienus)

Lasius neoniger x1

Crematogastor cerasi x1

Myrmica sp. x1

Legally speaking you can move them within the state. As it is only 3 hours away it would be my opinion that they are probably already in your area, you just haven't noticed them/ aren't thriving. Of coarse it is your choice, I wouldn't imagine that it could do much ecological harm.
