I just got a new colony of ca02 after my last one got cooked in the mail and this colony had 8 workers but 2 died but they are all fine. The brood all died besides 2 eggs. Their test tube was flooded but I took them all out and dried it out with q-tips and I wasn't able to move them back in cause they would keep climbing out when I put one back in. So I put their test tube inside of a pencil box with sand and dumped the colony in. Now I am waiting for them to move back into the test tube. Pics of them will be posted as well. I'm gonna leave them in the pencil box and just add test tubes as they grow. I will eventually get them a mini hearth once I get the money to.

I was told that Camponotus ca02 brood still grows during winter. Is that true?

Fed them their first meal a bit after they moved into the test tube. I gave them a cut up super worm and some drops of sugar water. They drank all the sugar water and with the super worm it looks like they barely touched it. They also have no brood now. Hopefully the queen isn’t done for the year.

My camponotus cao2 has stopped laying eggs as well but they still have sum larva and cocoons

mine has 13 workers and they are all huddled in there test tube

Good news! I thought two eggs that they had died when getting dumped. But I think they ended up finding them and they are now small larvae. So currently they have 2 small larvae which is good. Gonna be feeding them tomorrow or the next day.

Mine also aren't a big fan of mealworms/superworms, they barely even touch it

Colony is soon to come out of hibernation.

The colony is now out of hibernation! They came out of hibernation about a week ago. The queen has laid 9 eggs total, and some should be larvae any day now. They had 2 larvae they over wintered with. One of the larvae is close to spinning its cocoon and the other hasn't grown much. very excited to get this colony going. A few workers had died through hibernation, so they now have 4 workers total right now.

Nice, my ca02 came out of hibernation not too long ago too and my queen layer like 10 eggs in a day! Can’t wait to see yours get those humongous majors. I’ve seen the medians in person and they are already the size of the queen.
