To start off this colony used to be Brad’s and since he ran out of time for them I decided to take them on. Also I had been looking for some to no avail so I caved in and got these girls. To start the journal off I would say go check out Brad’s journal and read that then come back here to read. The first post is here will be a starter off and I will update this journal every week or unless something happens. Here is Brad’s journal: https://www.formicul...4-20/?hl=andrei

Currently I am housing them in 2 test tubes in a 10 gallon fish tank with 3 water feeders. A seed dish that will always be full and I will be feeding them every day. With a few meal worms until numbers increase. Without further ado, here they are.

Decided to put a thin layer of sand over the test tubes to stop light from getting in and lowering stress as the lights in the tank will be on most of the day, and I can easily remove the sand if I do wish.

Update 2/27/2022

Moved this colony into a formicarium that is in an outworld. Colony is getting more brood after coming out of hibernation. Excited to see how big they get this year. There will be pics in the next update due to trying to keeping stress levels down.

Update 3/5/2022

Colony is doing well, brood is slowly growing and the worker count is around 20-30. I’m hoping with the new formicaria and the new season this colony will reach 100 by end of the year. So let’s see what happens.

Oh, I am sorry.

Any ideas what could have caused it?

But I hope the new colony does well! Good luck.

Unfortunately life got in the way and the formicarium was bad. I didn’t have enough time to fix it and so they slowly passed due to a lack of hydration. It was sad but this colony will do fine. I’ll be moving them either into a terrarium and then to outside or I’ll be putting them into a tubs and tubes setup.
