In the lawn of a house surrounded by woods. There's a big creek about 12 ft. below lawn.

Reddish-orange with black gaster. Dark mandibles. Shiny body.

They appear in large numbers on sunny days in the hottest part of the day. Seem to prefer sandy areas. Aggressive. They do bite.

Hi everyone!
I'm new here. Trying to id these ants that show up in sunny, sandy areas of my yard. I thought they were Carpenters but they are aggressive and bite. I've only seen them on the lawn and sidewalks. They get quite excited in the heat.
