I'm back from a fun trip to the finger lakes. Sunburnt and happy with all the ants that I met. I didn't find any queens but it was fun to observe wild colonies.
I saw a massive camponotus pennsylvanicus colony in a mossy forest near a beach. The majors were huge and I followed them back to one of their hideouts. Still mad I didn't have my camera.
I also saw a formica sp. on the beach.
And some kinds of wasp dragging spiders much larger than her.
Later that afternoon I made this video about a typical ant war on one of the sidewalks near the hotel.
