Update: 2/5/22
No surprise to hear that these gals are doing good as ever! I took them off heat and protein for a week or two back in January since they were indeed slowing down quite a bit, but since then I've been powerfeeding them again and they're producing more brood. They haven't shrunk any, staying at about 500 workers for now, until the new brood hatches. I grabbed a couple pictures of the ever-elusive queen today as well:

I apologize if you've already covered this, but what nest is that colony in?
You're all good!
I have them in a Type III Mini Hearth right now. Its not the double-layer one, but it is divided into two chambers.

Update: 5/19/22
This colony slowed down quite a bit over the winter and early spring, only producing enough brood to replace the dying workers. Around March 21st the queen started becoming phsyogastric so I put them back on heat and she began laying eggs non-stop. It got to the point to where they were getting difficult to maintain so I slowed down their feedings in early April until I could get something new figured out for them. I ended up just connecting a spare Mini Hearth XL to their existing nest so they've got a ton more room to grow now. At the start of May I started poer feeding them again and it shows. No, seriously. It really shows. It seems like they're starting to reach the 800-900 worker range and their feeding response is a blast. As you can imagine, the queen is constantly physogastric and always laying new eggs. The brood pile covers the entire floor of the nest space and they aren't slowing down. I don't see any alate brood yet, but they're getting to the point to where we should start seeing some males or queens showing up any time now. Here's a picture of a couple smaller majors hanging out in the outworld:

They matured, produced a few hundred alates last summer and then died out when their nest temperature exceeded 100 degrees for several days.
