Months ago I took 14 workers and their queen from a 200 worker colony and put them into a test tube (I didn't know it was cruel to do that then). I brought them home and  months later maggots started appearing in their test tube, so I released them outside in a rotting stump. The moment I let them out, the queen bolted out and disappeared under the stump but the workers stayed put. Will the workers eventually find the queen and bring her back or will the queen be fine on her own and start a new colony?

They might find her. Please don’t ruin any more ants lives like this, no offense.

I actually saw her wandering around inside the log with a worker a couple minutes ago!

That's a good sign. Hopefully they can recover.
