I found a queen around midday today, wandering. She is, as the literature describes, pugnacious. When trying to capture her, she lunged at my index finger, and grabbed on, trying to sting. Thankfully I was able to shake her off in time. I am fairly sure this is indeed salinus, as californicus isn't found where I am in the Sierras, and she isn't occidentalis as her basalmost tooth is not offset. Here are some pictures of her:

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Anyway, that queen died a long time ago.
However, on my trip, I found 4 more of these queens, and one laid an egg today. I fed them all some crushed up sunflower seeds, which they are currently munching on, so hopefully Ill end up with some successful colonies out of this. Ill update this if more queens get eggs.
