Protein helps but most Camponotus will be slow growers regardless. Tetramorium, Solenopsis, Brachymyrmex, Lasius, Crematogaster and more are all fast growing especially with food and heating. Camponotus are as slow as they come and have never worked for me besides the more prolific Camponotus absqualator.
