Thief Ants?

Hey there

 

I think I have thief ants in my kitchen - can you take a look at this link: https://imgur.com/VB6280i to see if I've properly identified them. 

 

There was a trail leading to a gap around my window.  I sealed off the gap but there are still about 30 visible ants, who are circling the area around the sealed gap.

 

Does anyone have any advice on how I should properly handle this?

How big are the ants? Thief ants are tiny (0.5-3mm), the ants in the picture looks more like Solenopsis xyloni.

Looks like a Solenopsis species though.


Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

First step, seal external entry points. If that doesn’t solve the problem, put out Terro ant gel.

thanks everyone.  the ants are minuscule - smallest i've ever seen.  they appear larger in the photo but with a comparison, they do look like thief ants.

they are in the kitchen, by the sink/crack in the trim around the window.  we've sealed that off.  

 

we are located in NYS.
