Hello,

I've got a small colony of Lasius Flavus ( Queen + ~10 workers) in a test-tube hooked up with only a couple cm of vinyl tubing to a THA Mini Hearth XL. The Hearth has got two nest mates (both filled with water, not air) and a pretty full water tower.

It's been connected for about a couple of weeks and they've not moved. I'm a bit concerned due to how dry the test tube is starting to get. The Hearth's viewing port is covered up, so it shouldn't be lit up.

They've piled some cotton and garbage at the lip of the connecting tubing.

Anyone have any success with a colony of this size with a Hearth XL moving in?

Or is a Hearth XL the wrong choice for Lasius, a bit too big, perhaps?

Thank you.

The colony would do good in the mini hearth XL. Ants not moving in is a pretty common thing (not because they don't like it). Best method moving ants in is just dumping them into the outworld, it sounds stressful but it is actually better than just connecting the test tube to the mini hearth XL and exposing bright light onto them, because ants will get less stress overall and it is way quicker.

Cool, thank you. Currently trying to dump them, now.

The queen has a pretty good grip on the inside of the tube...Get out of there! :P
