Did your Pogonomyrmex or mesor ants muck up the glass again? Wish you could clean it without the trauma of moving nests? This nest design would offer a less traumatic option.
This nest would lay flat and it would come with multiple magnetic covers. But there would also be a lip to hold the glass in place. By carefully sliding and watching that no ants get stuck or escape you can now replace the glass with the clean alternate. A piece of cello tape over the crack between the two panes will minimise escapes.
I've done this with my Pogonomyrmex and it annoys them, but not as much as a nest move would. But having a nest *designed* to do this would be amazing. It's pretty dangerous without anything holding the glass in place.
I don't really think we have a right to clean glass... but if you are using your nest for a classroom or experiment this might be needed.
If the sliding process is slow enough you can even minimize the anger.
I might make some 3D models.
The only downside is this won't clean the spaces between the chambers, but perhaps some kind of felt divider could help with that.
Your ants will hate you! But you'll be able to see them!
