Looks like Ph. tysoni. I know some spp. can have macrogynes and microgynes, so this might be a microgyne.

Caught this single queen in my blacklight trap. She was with many other flying Pheidole tysoni queens, so I’m wondering if she is in fact a Pheidole tysoni queen, but just extremely dwarfed?

Date: July 12th
Size: 4 mm
Coloration: yellow/orange
Time of flight: near sunrise (likely)

Whatever she is, she’s adorable and I hope she’s fertile.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Neat! I had no idea microgynes and macrogynes even existed.

Yeah she looks like a mini pheidole tysoni. Would the workers be super small too?

My favorite queens/colony’s:
Pheidole Tysoni, Selonopis Molesta, Brachymyrmex Depilis, Tetramorium Immagrians, Prenolepis Imparis, Pheidole Bicirinata
