I spotted a new queen while visiting a family member up by Yosemite Area. Commonly see Carpenter Ants and Velvety Ants in the area, and after some help from Dspdrew I believe I have a queen Velvety Tree Ant. I was completley unprepared so I made a makeshift testube from an aquarium water test kit I had extra of. And she seems to be taking to it well, laid a few eggs after about 2 days in there and by the 3rd or 4th day she had laid a large pile that I counted to be around 25 eggs. I offered the queen some sugar water via a small piece of dabbed cotton, which she seemed to happily accept and drink from. Didn't want to disturb her too much but she seems to be doing well and tending eggs. Day 8 today 08.04.2021
