1. Location (on a map) of collection: Joliet IL
2. Date of collection: 7-7-2021
3. Habitat of collection: in the grass between the sidewalk and street within my neighborhood
4. Length (from head to gaster): N/A ATM but it looks to be about the size of a black carpenter ant supermajor
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Redish brown in the thorax and head area, gastor is redish brown with light colored rings and legs are lighter than rest of ant
6. Distinguishing characteristics: light color rings around gastor, lighter colored legs than rest of ant
7. Distinguishing behavior: pretty fast movement and can be a little feisty when startled
8. Nest description: N/A I found her by herself moving to the grass from the sidewalk

9. Nuptial flight time and date: no idea to be honest. found her probably around 4pm central time

sorry for the lack of some information, but I hope this is mostly helpful. if exact length is needed, I will try to get it. I just have her in the dark right now, and whenever i take her out from the dark, she goes pretty nuts with all the running around in the test tube and it takes a little bit to get her to chill out.

Thanks everyone in advance!

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

thank you! I'm pretty sure I seen a few of these over the past few days, but tracking queens while walking with my daughter can be difficult at times. so the others managed to get away in the grass. i'm assuming based on the size of her thorax, she is a queen?

again thank you!
