They LOVE protein. They'll eat anything from fruit flies, to chicken, to fish food flakes.

I wonder why mine don’t forage like that…There are usually four workers foraging and when they get mealworms they just burry it. The max amount of workers I’ve seen is like fifteen.

There's normally a handful in the foraging area. But they have a swarm response to most food.

So minor update on the colonies. I'm giving the colony in my own made nest (The winged queen) to a local 6th grade science class! (y) I'll be keeping the xl mini hearth colony for myself. I really can only handle one colony of these fast growing gals. (At least for now.) Plus I need the shelf space for my other species.

These colonies keep growing, and seem to eat whatever I give them.

Dang I would've took the colony if I'd saw this journal earlier. Cool it's going to a school though. I suppose one 200 worker immigrans colony is fine for me (y) nice looking colony

One colony of tetramorium is plenty for me. I have no idea how people keep something faster growing like fire ants. :ugone2far:

For fire ants, I think you probably just need to have a lot of different sized nests ready

Gave one colony to that middle school, still got the xl mini hearth/mini hearth colony. They do forage a bit in the additional mini hearth, but not many workers or brood in there normally. The XL mini hearth is jammed packed however. Crazy to see. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to figure out something else nest wise.
