Could Pogonomyrmex Cali queens kill each other because of lack of protein?

So I didn’t feed my Pogonomyrmex Californicus queens any meat for about 4 days and I went to feed them and I have a really good batch I had of three queens. When I went to check on them and one queen died and was cut in half and the last two were fighting right when I checked on them. There was one queen with her mandibles around the other queens neck about to decapitate her but I fed them some protein and idk how they are now. They also just got larva so I believe they killed the other queen to get protein. Then I have another with 2 queens. The other died of natural causes. I checked on them and they were really aggressive near each other and would lunge out at each other trying to fight over the brood pile. I believe they should be good now after I fed them protein. Those two queens has a ton of larva and 1 very big larva that’s almost pupa to.

Maybe yours are just not very happy being put together? I have never had a poly/pleo group of P. calis, but I will say my P. subnits never got meat (they did have some seeds available) and have never fought. They have had a 50% mortality rate, but it was not from fighting. I currently have two second year colonies of P. subnits,  both with two queens. I understand poly/pleo and such can be very much regional and is probably a small genetic difference, but that little genetic switch makes a huge difference.

Personally speaking, I would separate queens out who have shown aggressive tendencies. You don't want them to kill each other.

P. californicus, in most cases, are monogynous or pleometrotic and will kill each other eventually. They don't need protein, but they do need seeds.

Mostly depends on region I think. The  P.calis in my region have never even attempted to hurt each other even after handling hundreds year after year.

Were they the ones you bought from me? I have not had a single successful multiple queen founding from the queens I have caught. Mine always kill eachother eventually, usually within the first few days to weeks.

How many did you put together? I do just have horrible luck with my Pogonomyrmex so you might have some success.

Hm. There arent any signs of aggression already? Most of mine showed aggression almost immediately.
