I recently captured two Aphaenogaster sp. queens in Indianapolis, Indiana from a small nest along a forest trail. When I peeled back a leaf to reveal the nest two queens were present with ~20 workers. I looked on the ant care sheets and it says Aphaenogaster is monogene, but I am pretty sure the two queens I caught came out of the same nest. Are some species of Aphaenogaster polygene and some monogene?
I have the queens in a separate test tube each with one of the workers. It has been a few days since capture, if I move them back into the same tube will they play nice?
Thank you for any advice.
