I just got a colony of Camponotus ca02 in the mail when doing a trade and they all got cooked in the sun and died. They had around 50 workers and a nice looking queen. This was the first time i would have kept them. I traded a colony of formica moki with 40 workers inside of a fire brick nest.

I should have said that for this thread anyone can put queens and colony's that have died and that this isn't just for me. (community thread)

Not exactly a "death" but I was forced to release a Camponotus queen my brother found in the house because I didn't have the proper equipment to handle it at the time, it started chewing out of the empty pill bottle I'd set up like a test tube, so I had to put it on a nearby log on a trail

If nothing else I know where there's almost certainly going to be a colony now, though

I saw a queen and asked my grandpa to get a cup for it. He wouldn’t go grab one so I had to, when I came back it was squished.

Funny, I am about to get some CA02 shipped, so I hope have some better luck thru the shipping process. It has been week these past days, so I have waited for temps to cool down.

I think my worst death queen was probably a Dorymyrmex queen I had, which drowned in some honey & sugarwater mix. It does not sound too awful, more embarrassing haha.

Last year I accidentally crushed a polyergus queen when the glass of their casita nest came off and then slammed back on. It was a large colony too.

When I just started antkeeping I though fully claustral queens also didn't need water. I put a C. novaeboracensis queen in a container full of sand and twigs. Later that year when I realized they also need water I put a Formica queen in a plastic container full of wet coco coir and a bottle cap of water, then I proceeded to leave that outside and she overheated.

Just remembered another one. I found a Leptothorax queen for the first time, and she squeezed in between the substrate and the side of the container and died.

One time I had a colony of Camponotus irritans with about 40-50 workers and when I went to my grandma's house for about 3 days I forgot to give them a test tube with water and when I came back only 5 workers and the queen is left and all the other workers died.

My past leptogenys colony died for no reason and I've never seen that species since :(

Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

YouTube: https://m.youtube.co...uKsahGliSH7EqOQ (It's pretty dead. Might upload again soon, don't expect my voice to sound the same though.)

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

Welp back before I joined formiculture I had a bunch of ants. Including:
Camponotus ca02 small colony
Brachymyrmex large colony
Solenopsis xyloni large colony

Then I got a Preno colony from someone and I didn’t notice any mites cause they were in a dirt box. Fast forward about a month and all colonies were wiped out and I quit anting until picking back up in 2020.

My first ever ant colony which is a year old Camponotus albosparsus colony died from mites as well.

Edit: I edited this post because the previous one doesn't make sense.
