Don't do it. From my experience Odontomachus do not need an outworld. A simple test tube works fine.

Hmm, I guess...Do you usually add substrate in the tube though? I just heard that Odontomachus do well in either tubes with substrate or a tubes and tubs setup. Idontexist has his trapjaw queen in a bare tube without substrate, so...

Well, I always have mine with substrate and I told idontexist to add substrate at the start when he caught the Odontomachus and Ectatomma.

There's a chance they'll survive if left as undisturbed as possible and given an ample food source. Chances of that are slim though, ESPECIALLY with species like Ectatomma and Odontomachus...

Please house your more dangerous Ant species in a more.. let say.. "safe" place.

Its horrible to think a young kid was able to get to them and even get stung.

Also, this specific container will NOT work, because there are ventilation holes at the top. The ants will simply crawl out and escape, so you're probably better off in a test tube setup...

Black..? I don't think they're eggs, all ant eggs are either white or yellowish. They're probably bits of mold, or maybe the queen's feces?

Do you have a magnifying glass? If you don't you should definitely get one, they're fairly cheap and you can get some pretty good shots just using one.

A jeweller's loupe also works great, I take all my YouTube videos using one.

My Ants:

Colonies: Camponotus humilior 1w, Opisthopsis rufithorax 11w, Aphaenogaster longiceps ~5w, Pheidole sp. ~235w ~15m, Iridomyrmex sp. 2q 1w, Brachyponera lutea 6w, Crematogaster sp. ~20w, Podomyrma sp. 1w

Queens: Polyrhachis cf. robinsoni, Polyrhachis (Campomyrma) sp. (likely infertile)

Previously Kept: Colobopsis gasseri, Technomyrmex sp., Rhytidoponera victorae, Nylanderia cf. rosae, Myrmecia brevinoda/forficata, Polyrhachis australis, Solenopsis/Monomorium

Key: Q = Queen, W = Worker, M = Major

That one white object is probably an egg, but the black spots are definitely NOT.

yeah the white dot is def an egg, but since she took so long to lay the egg could be infertile.

May I just say this is one of the most detailed and enthralling journals I've ever read. keep up the good work.

Also ectatomma eggs are usually black. Just a trait of the genus.

Apparently, they are the darkest ant eggs I've ever seen, although they're more of a brownish color rather than black
