My dad bought some of these and I was wondering how I should use it for.

2 starting colonies in one test tube and no rolling. Seems cool.

That's what I have in mind but I wonder what else I can use it for.

It would be a pain in the butt to get the cotton out.

You could also use it for a single colony either as two separate test tube chambers connected to an outworld or one large chamber with a bend in it and two cotton plugs near one of the ends for water. The latter use would be interesting as you could take the cotton plug nearest to the top out and refill the test tube if it runs out of water, and the bend may make the ants feel more comfortable as they could nest out of view of the entrance.

I've been obsessed with this idea forever, this isn't how I imagined it but whatever:
Make one half the actual test tube and lay it on its side (so it looks like a U top down), and then have this piece on the other end that curved upwards.  When the colony is running dry, just fill it up with water.  I can still definitely see flaws this way though, and there are most certainly better ideas (just look at posts before or after this).
