Hello everybody

My Iridomyrmex Bicknelli queen, Queen "Bloody" Mary, just had her pupae eclose a few days ago! I will be doing a journal of her, updating at least once a week, on her progress. She currently has 2 nanitics with a few more larvae, and is 2 months old. I've recently been feeding her dead ant queens (that's why she's called "bloody"), and she seems to love them. She is housed in a Empire of Ants PH formicarium, which her workers love to explore. They are VERY active and energetic, and are amazing to watch.Screen Shot 2020-02-08 at 9.54.31 am.png

interesting... species wise at least. Keep me informed as iridomrymex is one of the more interesting Aussie ants (besides their sugar ants-those got my heart from day one).

What about Myrmecia and Rhytidoponera?

I don't know, I just have never really got into them as much as Camponotus

Look them up. They're WAY more unique than even some unique ants down in California.

The queen hasn't done much, the brood is still exactly the same, just that the queen is bloated with honey.

Yeah, these ants are really active and interesting to keep. My No.1 species.

Umm so my test tube started drying up and mould started to grow, and I had no other test tubes handy, so yeah.

Could it be getting close to winter in Australia, which slows brood development?

I'm sorry what, sure there are some nice purp group species, but the genus is mostly just bulky linepithema. They actually used to be the same genus. Aus has so many unique ants. The majority of iridomyrmex are not one of them.

Ants I have: Tapinoma sessile(2 queen colony). RED MORPH Camponotus neacticus(now has pupae!), Tetramorium immigrans (x3), Aphaenogaster sp, Temnothorax sp, Brachymyrmex sp.   possibly infertile   :(,  Ponera pennsylvanica, and Pheidole morrisi!  :yahoo: 

 

Other insects: Polistes sp. Queen

                    

Ants I need: Pheidole sp., Trachymyrmex sp., Crematogaster cerasi , Dorymyrmex sp. Most wanted: Pheidole morrisii

Yeah, I just love them lol. I love how the queens are iridescent and how fast they grow, along with the fact that they are native.

I would feel the same way. I’m only interested in ordinary ants for whatever reason.

Same. I like the normal ant look more than some of the crazier looking stuff.
