Hello everyone! I've decided to catalog all of my colonies in a single journal that I'll update as events happen with individual colonies. I chose to wait until I got a new queen this year before starting a new journal so that I'd have something new to record. In terms of colonies, I currently only have my large P. occidentalis colony due to mold outbreaks among my Tetramorium and Formica that were beyond my capabilities to effectively combat. Hopefully, I'll catch new queens of those genera in July.
The new queen I have is Camponotus, which I have been trying to find for about a year. In the end though, Devi was the one that found the queen, and I acquired the queen from him. This antkeeping season, I hope to improve my mold management and picture quality, starting with this new queen.
Any attempt to identify her is welcome. She was found in a wooded habitat almost on the bank of a stream, she's about 20 mm long, rather calm, mostly dark brown/black but has a maroonish color on parts of her legs and thorax. She was found around 5 pm on June 5th. Nest wasn't found, but Devi believes that the flight was also on June 5th.
She's got 3 eggs at the moment. They look a little large to me and I'm thinking that they might be males, but I have 0 experience with Camponotus and male alate eggs in general so I may be incorrect.
