These questions will all be for my Camponotus Pennsylvanicus queen and almost a worker. I have a larger colony (of the same species), but that one was gifted to me. So this my first time raising one of these from the start. Ok, question time, when the workers do come, 1. what should I feed them that would help them thrive? 2. how much of it? Would sugar water work? 3. Should they start off with a protien source or a sugar source? 4. does sugar water work as well as honey or maple syrup (sugar water is litterally all I've got at this point)?

Always try new things, even if its hard, hard is not impossible. We are smart and it's good to be smart but not too smart for your own good.

1. Just sweets and insects

2. Just like a drop of sugar water (which works) and a small cricket or piece of mealworms once a week

3. I do both at the same time, though sugar is recommended if the workers are freshly emerged

4. Yes, sugar water works great. Its all i use and it works.

Shouldn't normal water also be proposed, besides sugar water?

Normal water should already be available if the ants are in a test tube setup, or if they are in a formicarium, water can be provided through watering the water reservoir (which should be a part of all, if not most, formicarium.)

Yes, I have them in a test tube set up with cotton blocking the water (my queen would be dead by now if there wasn't any water ).
