hey guys i found this ant walking across a large paved area in my back yard from what I've found so far i think its a lasius niger, 

the weather over here is not the best but I'm just keeping an eye out to see what's around.

i also found a lone green headed worker walking around (no photos sorry) so I'm keen to look into those ants a bit more the green colour was beautiful!

ill pre apologize on the photos its very small and hard to get focus on it. 

 

 

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Bendigo, Victoria, Australia.
2. Date of collection: today
3. Habitat of collection: pavement 
4. Length (from head to gaster):  id say 5-7mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: all black with with almost stripes on the abdomen 
6. Distinguishing characteristics: large thorax 
7. Distinguishing behavior: rather active
8. Nest description: none found

9. Nuptial flight time and date: possibly now and for the next 3 months.
