I found this guy/gal in the pool today. Normally I’m pretty good at telling the males from queens, however this one has me a little confused. The head looks triangular and large compared to the thorax, which makes me think queen. They also have a bend in its antennae which also suggest queen, however they have slightly larger eyes. Along with longer legs + antennae which makes me think male or parasitic.
They are 4 mm and have slightly dark yellowish brownish color.
Very fast, can climb on glass easily, however if tapped or shaken will fall off glass.
Pretty sure this is a male, but just wanted to make sure.

This is a male. Not 100% sure on species though.
Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.
However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:
Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
