Winkler and Davis Sifter Mesh Diameter?

After looking into winkler and davis sifters I have decided I need some for myself. However, I could not find the mesh thickness needed for the screen of the davis sifter, and the bag used in the winkler. What is generally the ideal diameter for this mesh? Any input is appreciated!


Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I've read that people use coarse mesh, maybe 1/4" will work?

Thanks! I think Ill go with 1/4", 1/8", and standard window screen. I will just design the lid of the sifter to be able to have the screen slide in and out, so I can re-sift the material at different diameters.
