Pogonomyrmex Californicus Desert or Coastal Variety

Hi, I just wanted to confirm whether these were Desert bicolor or coastal Pogonomyrmex. All were caught here in Bakersfield CA at Hart Park near some rivers around 90-95 degrees at 8:30 pm.

Not all "desert" P. californicus are the bicolor variant. It's also quite hard to tell whether they are going to be concolor or bicolor from what I've seen.

Fair enough. This is only like 4 or 5 out of my 35 caught. Some have more black than others and some have as little as a dot on their gaster.

I have caught some near Merced, CA, and they are rather similar to this. I think the ones in Central Cali, the queens anyway, are kind of in between in terms of gaster coloration.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
