I found my first Veromessor queen, from North California. Does anyone have experience raising these? I've put her in a test tube with bluegrass and poppy seeds. Is substrate a must? I have successfully founded Pogonomyrmex subdentatus at mid-upper 80s but I'm not sure if Veromessor like it that hot.
Thanks!
I use a THA nest, not sure if you want to consider that as substrate but my V. andrei do not walk on any glass or acrylic surface. Prior to that I had them on a hydrostone nest/outworld, again, dried with substrate on it similar to a THA. Though I added sand in the test tube, they ended up moving out the sand and replaced it with seeds.
