Very sweet journal you have here!
It's journals like these that make me wish I had honeypots but since that fell through and now that I have two ant species already, think my hands are full, timewise and space-wise.
But I'll admire it from afar!

Update 2-4-2024
The large colony is still doing really well right now and probably has over 1500 workers. I know they recently had a very large amount of new workers eclose because there was a massive pile of empty cocoons I had to clean out of there. They've continued to dig also and it looks like they added another whole chamber down towards the bottom. The excavated dirt was piling up pretty high so I sucked it all out with a mini vacuum.
Normally there aren't any workers out of the nest during the day, but this is what it looks like when I drop a few crickets in there.
After all those pupae eclosed, there are hardly any cocoons, but giant piles of medium-sized larvae.
The three new colonies are doing well also. The worker counts are about 25, 50, and 100.

Have always admire the honeypot ants that you guys keep.
Love how you're able to fill them up with colored liquids too.
Very interesting video, looks like me rushing to get some chicken drumsticks at the KFC / Popeyes.
Still a bit sad that I couldn't get the M. placodops, but I'll get some enjoyment from watching you guys enjoy them.
Thanks for sharing

Your formicarium that houses the mature colony is so gorgeous. Truly an amazing engineering accomplishment!
Thank for the update
