Mods, move this if this is not in a correct place.

Furthermore, I've written reviews of formicariums I've used on my own forum @ Ant journals

Product URL: http://grotube.byformica.com/

I've finally received Grotube XL version 2 with a small pre-production glassbox (a fancy word for outworld). I shall repeat again that the outworld is a pre-production model and does not represent the full production version but should give you an idea of what you will get.

There isn't much change in the nest itself compared to previous version of Grotube XL. In order to fit level with the new glassbox, the Grotube is now required to have an riser. The nest will sit on the riser.

Now time to take the paper off the plastic.

The nest has two water blocks which are filled with transparent water absorbing jelly-like stuff. It becomes completely transparent when submerged in water. I've had two Grotubes before and I have to say this version of Grotube is higher quality than my previous ones. The build quality is excellent and finishing touches are properly done.

The outworld was a major problem with previous Grotube. It was too small. I did voice my opinion to ByFormica and they apparently listened, or maybe they were planning even before I mentioned it.

The outworld comes in three sizes: 3.5 inch, 5 inch, and 8 inch. The one you are looking at is 5 inch pre-production outworld. I have the 8inch one coming from them as soon as they are ready for production and shipping.

The white side is "backsplash" where you are supposed to be able to swap for different color plane. Since this is a pre-production model, this feature isn't available. The two holes are for "Simplifeed" system which isn't finished at the moment.

The simplifeed system lets you add liquid feeder into the outworld without having to open the top lid.

There are two top lids for the outworld. You may apply fluon, AKA insect barrier, on lower top lid. Once you do that, you can keep the upper toplid open without having to fear great ant escapes. This can come in handy when you are giving them food.

This version of Grotube is outstanding. I have very little complains at the first glance. Of course, as with every other formicariums, issues arise upon prolonged usage. Therefore, I will not judge this formicarium yet. But I can assure that my first impression of the formicarium was excellent. Along with THA Nucleus, this is the state of art formiacriums.

Peace out.
