My trap jaw ant colony's larvae stopped spinning cocoons, the workers buried the larvae in the soil but then the workers take the larvae away even though it haven't pupated yet. pls help, this is the first time I've seen it happen before and I don't know why  :(

Maybe the substrate has become unsuitable. Or the larvae could be unhealthy. You could try different substrates like sand, coco peat, clay dirt etc.

YouTube: https://m.youtube.co...uKsahGliSH7EqOQ (It's pretty dead. Might upload again soon, don't expect my voice to sound the same though.)

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

You have to worry. Trap jaw larvae need to spin cocoons to pupate. If they can't then they are eaten by the colony. That's why trap jaw ant larvae not spinning cocoons is a big worry.

I'll try moving the colony to a new test tube and see if that helps

Actually, the test tube is getting a bit moldy and it's almost out of water.

ah, so that’s the reason. Odontomachus and ponerines in general love humidity. Give them a new tube.

Ahhhhh no wonder. Just change the tube like Mantiboant said. Odontomachus love high humidity.
