Finally June and July are almost here and for us in Virginia that means that (if you know where to find them) we are gonna catch tons of queens easily! Recently I acquired a dying Pheidole colony from someone in my state, but not on this forum, which is a second year colony that had only around 20 workers and 3 Majors. At first glance it looks a lot like Pheidole dentata a common species down in central VA, after closer inspection I can't even tell what species it is but it certainly looks unique. They currently have around 7 workers 1 major and after feeding them some honey and fruit flies they have a few larvae, pupae, and tons of eggs! Pictures will be here soon as well as another update on the Trachymyrmex colony I have. I hope to add each species of pheidole in state into this journal - P. bicarinata P. pilifera P. Davisi. P. Morissi. P. tysoni and maybe some south carolina species to!
