Get Ready for Ant-Keeping & Ethology's 2021 NuptialBlitz!

The Ant-Keeping & Ethology Discord server is hosting a competition for the 2021 nuptial flight season!

Essentially, the competition is to see who can find the most species of queens during the 2021 flight season. It is unfortunately only open to US antkeepers for this year, however in the future we may expand the competition to a wider audience.

During the competition the country is split into 5 regions. Each of the 5 regions has its own winner, and each of those winners will receive a FREE Pogonomyrmex occidentalis colony!

Here's a map of all the regions, so you can get an idea of who you'll be competing against:

blitzmap.png?width=978&height=675

Now, to participate, all you need to do is join the Discord Server and assign yourself the USA role when you join. After that check out the Nuptial Blitz category to read over the rules, info, FAQs, and get signed up! (Signup opens on 5/13). The server has all of the fine details you'll need to know to participate.

The contest starts this Thursday, 5/13, so get ready! We're excited to see you all there! We encourage everyone to join asap to get familiar with the rules before the contest starts.

I’m moving from one region to another so I don’t know if I’ll participate.

It'd be funny if the guy who caught the most Pogonomyrmex sp. queens wins :)

Points are awarded based on the number of species you catch, not the number of queens. although I could totally see someone catching a bunch of pogonomyrmex species during this, that would definitely be funny.

Can I join without joining discord? Is it just honor system?

Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

YouTube: https://m.youtube.co...uKsahGliSH7EqOQ (It's pretty dead. Might upload again soon, don't expect my voice to sound the same though.)

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

What does being underaged have to do with it? I'm a minor, but at the same time I'm opting out of the prize.

I don't think that's possible since submissions are made on discord, that's also where the leaderboards are and scores are tallied
