At least in terms of the number of ant species described he is unchallenged:

With 1960 (still valid) ant species he described the most ant species of all myrmecologists.

At the age of 7, he began observing ants and at age of 25 he published his most famous work "The ants of Switzerland". Even Charles Darwin expressed his admiration in several letters. He was also a  neuroanatomist, psychiatrist and eugenicist.

You can read more about him in his Wikipedia article.

Man, I'd be happy to discover/describe one species and he's got over 1900. That's crazy.

Well the forum censored bada s s.

And why should I write anything bad (without the a s s) about him? I am known for spreading positivity only....  :D

Hmmm idk I'm a huge fan of E. O. Wilson but I'm not sure how many species he has ID

352

But these numbers aren't a good indicator of how great the work of a specific myrmecologist was, because some focus more on other things like observing and describing behavior, so they'll probably have less time going out and try to describe new species. Also Forel was lucky because back then a lot of common ant species weren't described yet.

IF we are focusing on bad-a$$ level, then yes.
