Hello everyone, new to ant keeping, found a possible queen. Just looking for possible confirmation and identification. Thanks so much for your help! 

 

1. Location (on a map) of collection:

PA, suburb outside Philadelphia.

 

2. Date of collection:

May 12th 2021 Morning/Afternoon.

 

3. Habitat of collection:

Under flat rock in suburban backyard.

 

4. Length (from head to gaster):

Approx. =<1/2”

 

5. Color, hue, pattern and texture:

Black head & thorax, yellow and brownish black gaster, fully yellow under gaster & thorax.

 

6. Distinguishing characteristics:

Yellow under gaster.

 

7. Distinguishing behavior:

 

8. Nest description:

 

9. Nuptial flight time and date:

Definitely a queen, but not sure what species. looks almost exactly like some species of Camponotus, but their usually a bit larger than 1/2. Good luck!


Ants are Pets, not Pests.

-Monomorium spp.

-Pogonomyrmex californicus

-Solenopsis spp.
