Mine are being shipped on Monday! I’m so hyped :D

It’ll be colder than a penguin’s backside. Better wait at the door for the package!
Trust me I’m nervous

My favorite queens/colony’s:

No sign of slowing down. Also that seed horde is amazing. It's fun to watch them sort through it. Sometimes they just randomly move seeds to a different chamber.

This is probably a stupid question but why do you give them so many seeds that they can’t all go through at once? Wouldn’t it be more effective to give them enough to eat but not to much so that they block up their nest and make it so they have less room for workers and brood?

If they run out of seeds they will start to eat their brood/go into diapause. As you can see, there is still plenty of space in the top left chamber. I normally allow a sort of ebb and flow of seeds. I'll give them time for a few days to eat a bunch, then add more.

Been a minute since I updated this one. Colony is still doing well, and will likely need a new home soon. I'm leaning towards a XL Labyrinth or a Nucleus 360.

I've cut back my feeding routine a bit. Trying to get this colony to use up some of their seed stores.

I'd be careful when cutting back protein because what I've observed is that mine take seeds and will store them and use them but they can't make their brood fully develop like that. They need a mix of protein and seeds from what I've seen. I don't know if it's just my Pogonomyrmex are just wacky but last time I tried it didn't go great.

I'm only cutting back their seeds. I should have mentioned that. Still giving them fruit flies and crickets.

Okay, so this colony seemed to slow for a bit. I upped their protein a touch and they seem back on track.

Uh oh, may I ask what material was that nest made out of?

I would guess it was Ytong.

Its not Ytong. I have one of those nest. Got it from AliExpress. Its a very weak plaster/cement base material. It crumbles away if it gets wet at all.

Moved this colony to a new custom made THA XL Labyrinth, ended up throwing out most of their seeds due to a booklice issue in their old labyrinth. Not seen in the second photo is about 200+ pissed off workers in the outworld.

This colony is really showing that they are settling into their new home. This is just one of three water towers, all of which have brood. Look at those eggs!
