Hello everyone,
I recently captured a queen Camponotus castaneus as she was on 'walk about' after her nuptial flight (wings already gone). I have placed her in a nice claustral set-up All seems well...EXCEPT that when I caught her, she had the head of another C. castaneus 'attached' to one of her antennae, due to the other ant clamping its jaws shut over the antenna, and somehow 'losing her head.' The young queen does not seem overly bothered or impeded by this....my question is- will this 'fall off' or decay in time? I am not keen to attempt a removal.
Many thanks!
