(cylindrica group), ★ Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

Hi Ants KL, I haven't seen my weaver queen drinking the sugar water and honey drop I gave her, it's been quite a while now, will she wither away? She's still guarding her eggs.

She’ll be fine don’t worry she probably won’t eat in e light because she feels scared.

Hi Ants KL, I haven't seen my weaver queen drinking the sugar water and honey drop I gave her, it's been quite a while now, will she wither away? She's still guarding her eggs.

She will feed only when hungry. No worries tho. She should be fine. Also AntBoi3030 they found in the light so it's just her.

Today, I see that she moved 2 eggs to the outer part of the rolled leaf, far away from the rest of the eggs that are kept in a pile, any idea why?

I have very sad news to share, I found the ant queen out of the leaves this morning and unfortunately, she has died.... words cannot describe my grieve now... The eggs do not seem to have grown much and from the photo, it looks like they are covered in white spots, they might be mould, but how do we keep that away?? Another reason leading to her demise, could be that the leaves starting turning black, but she didn't move her eggs out of it, I'm not sure why.. aw man this really sucks.. 😭😭😭

Looks like it could have been that yellow fungus that killed her and her brood... I have had similar mold kill Formica and Camponotus.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I would put something like "Discontinued" in the title of this thread so people don't keep asking for updates. You could also put in the first post here something saying that updates are now in the other journal. :)

Things happen. My second queen died from cordyceps. Even more interesting there was a cordyceps hyperparasite. This queen probably died of dehydration. In the future, remember to spray her with drinking water every 2 days. And eggs usually take only 4 days to hatch so if they don't she is either eating them or the queen is infertile.

Why would she die of dehydration if I kept a moist tissue in the container, also a test tube with sugar solution? Do they only drink from water sources just right next to them? I sprayed water 2 times so far to keep it moist and humid in the container

They only drink water that is around the area where they nest. So it explains why she did not go out for the water. Another possibility is that she just had bad luck. This is also one of the main causes of death in ants.
