I have been calling my colonies by what species they are, but I have now come up with names for all of them. If I have a journal for these species I will now be using the colonies name for them in it.

Formica subsericea-The Midnight's

Nylanderia parvula-The Skittles

If my Prenolepis queens get workers then-The Misty

If yo want to share your colonies names then post them here.

Most antkeepers don’t like naming colonies. I wouldn’t call them that in a journal, as it could confuse people who only use scientific names.

I give all my queens a name from Norse mythology or the Viking Sagas. I use the name to refer to the entire colony as a collective unit as well.
Crematogaster cerasi: Sigyn (I also call them the Divas)
Pheidole bicarinata: Alfhild
Nylanderia vividula: Aslaug
Formica subsericea: Yrse
Monomorium minimum: Bil and Hjuki

I've only named one of my colonies so far (my S. molesta colony), I named them The Golden Ones. I don't know if that's a really good name, so if anybody has any sujestions then I'll consider changing their name.

Been keeping ants since January of 2021

Always try new things, even if its hard, hard is not impossible. We are smart and it's good to be smart but not too smart for your own good.

If I catch any castaneus I'm naming them The Chestnut Chums or something stupidly similar.  Just got an idea to 3d print or something similar a label titled Home of the Chestnut Chums and attach it onto their first formicarium (probably a mini hearth)

I haven't named any of mine but my friend calls one of my umbratus queens 360 as she spun in mid air in an open test tube lengthwise through 360 degrees by accident. I think it was just the centrifugal force keeping her in.
